As the colony grew in 1831, hostile encounters started between the British settlers and the Noongar people. The war lasted till 1834, the British overcame the indigenous people, after the execution of the Whadjuk elder Midgegooroo, and his son Yagan in 1833, and the Battle of Pinjarra was completed in 1834. By 1843, aboriginal people had begun to disintegrate after having been dispossessed of the land around the main settlement area of Perth.
